A newcomer appeared at one of these groups. . . . He soon proved that his was a desperate case, and above all he wanted to get well. . . . [He said], "Since I am the victim of another addiction even worse stigmatized than alcoholism, you may not want me among you." ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS COMES OF AGE, p. 101 I think these words apply to every area of A.A.'s Three Legacies: Recovery, Unity and Service! I want them etched in my mind and life as I "trudge the Road of Happy Destiny" (Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 164). T...
The tremendous fact for every one of us is that we have discovered a common solution. We have a way out on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action. This is the great news this book carries to those who suffer from alcoholism. This is one of my favorite passages from the Big Book.  DAILY PONDERABLES Together WE Trudge The Road OF Happy Destiny https://www.recoverytapers. com/   (good resource for Quarantiners) Daily Reflections TRUSTED SERVANTS They are servants. Theirs is the sometimes thankless privilege of doing the group's chores. TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 134 In Zorba the Greek, Nikos Kazantzakis describes and encounter between his principal character and an old man busily at work planting a tree. "What is it you are doing?" Zorba asks. The old man replies: "You can see very well what I'm doing my son, I'm planting a tree." "But why pl...
2020 International Convention, July 2-5, Detroit, Michigan, is Canceled Announcement by Michele Grinberg, Chair of the General Service Board of A.A. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 International Convention in Detroit, July 2-5. We know that this is a disappointment to our Fellowship, as every five years we look forward to celebrating sobriety, the Alcoholics Anonymous program of hope and recovery, and meeting dear friends, old and new, from around the world. Planning for the International Convention started in 2008 when Detroit was chosen to host the 2020 event. From the moment the city was selected, local leaders extended a warm welcome to A.A., and the event was representative of Detroit’s own rebirth as a great convention city. The excitement shown by the A.A. community and the people of the greater Detroit area was seen throughout the 12-year planning process. We experienced a phenomenal response from local A.A. members ready to volunteer...
Today would  be our Anniversary Breakfast.  I'm trying to remember.  Congratulation to Dan, Ben and Donna.  My apologies to anyone I have forgotten.  We will catch up on the coins once this is over.  DAILY PONDERABLES Together WE Trudge The Road OF Happy Destiny Daily Reflections EQUALITY Our membership ought to include all who suffer from alcoholism. Hence we may refuse none who wish to recover. Nor ought A.A. membership ever depend upon money or conformity. Any two or three alcoholics gathered together for sobriety may call themselves an A.A. group, provided that, as a group, they have no other affiliation. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 565 Prior to A.A., I often felt that I didn't "fit in" with the people around me. Usually "they" had more/less money than I did, and my points of view didn't jibe with "theirs." The amount of prejudice I had experienced in society only proved to me just how phony some self-righteous peopl...
Without regular meetings, it is more important than ever to maintain contact with other alcoholics.  Many are now voluntarily or compelled to isolate in their homes.  Pick up your phone and punch a few buttons.  The person you call will will be grateful, but the real benefit is for you. DAILY PONDERABLES    T ogether    WE Trudge The Road OF Happy Destiny  Daily Reflections A.A.'s FREEDOMS We trust that we already know what our several freedoms truly are; that no future generation of AAs will ever feel compelled to limit them. Our AA freedoms create the soil in which genuine love can grow. . . . LANGUAGE OF THE HEART, p. 303 I craved freedom. First, freedom to drink; later, freedom from drink. The A.A. program of recovery rests on a foundation of free choice. There are no mandates, laws or commandments. A.A.'s spiritual program, as outlined in the Twelve Steps, and by which I am offered even greater freedoms, is only suggested. I...
